Secure and reliable operation of complex interactive power networks poses significant theoretical and practical challenges in analysis, modeling, simulation, prediction, control, and optimization. In addition, mathematical models of such interactive systems are typically vague (or may not even exist); moreover, existing and classical methods of solution are either unavailable, or are not sufficiently powerful. In this paper we will address this problem, and develop an effective, intelligent, distributed control of power system networks such that, after a disturbance, parts of the network will remain operational and, will even automatically re-configure themselves. Related problems on the resolution of automated sensing, modeling, and control to achieve the overall objectives of efficiency, robustness, and reliability will also be addressed. 4. The variable behavior of the wind energy resource that provides insight into the system’s steady-state voltage stability is captured to produce a realistic simulation of a transmission system incorporating AC power flow along with economic dispatch and unit commitment. A novel voltage security analysis technique that incorporates wind variability is discussed. A Voltage Security Region of Operation (VSROp) that can be defined as the safe operating zone within a range of wind variability meeting voltage quality and less reserve requirements is also proposed.
